Question for David Jones, head of the National Climate Centre.

Apparently, mistruths are acceptable if you work for any government agency. And thats a pretty wide field of organisations.

Or maybe its a lack of accountability. Or both. Whatever you call it. In any case, our resident alarmist, who has said on the record that we need to act now or suffer the consequences of Co2 killing us all.

Remember this article?

This drought may never break

Richard Macey
January 4, 2008

IT MAY be time to stop describing south-eastern Australia as gripped by drought and instead accept the extreme dry as permanent, one of the nation’s most senior weather experts warned yesterday.

Perhaps we should call it our new climate,” said the Bureau of Meteorology’s head of climate analysis, David Jones.

He was speaking after the release of statistics showing that last year was the hottest on record in NSW, Victoria, South Australia and the ACT…

“There is absolutely no debate that Australia is warming,” said Dr Jones. “It is very easy to see, it is happening before our eyes.”

The only uncertainty now was whether the changing pattern was “85 per cent, 95 per cent or 100 per cent the result of the enhanced greenhouse effect”.

There is a debate in the climate community, after close to 12 years of drought, whether this is something permanent. Certainly, in terms of temperature, that seems to be our reality, and that there is no turning back…”

There will be more discussion on this later.

Anyway, he stated yesterday that he wonders whether the weather is trying to send a message about climate change, with reference to the hurricane heading for the United States.

Earth to David, come in David. Are you all there David?

Hurricanes are on the decrease. Here is the Accumulated Cyclone Energy, or ACE index.

Clearly on the decrease both globally and in the Northern Hemisphere. There has been a substantial drop off since early 1990s. Any link to climate change is incorrect and garbage. What has Co2 done in the same time frame?

Co2 has clearly skyrocketed since the industrial revolution after World War 2. So as Co2 has rapidly risen, the trend for hurricanes is non existent with it.

Further evidence this has nothing to do with climate change whatsoever.

1940s decade had the highest number of major hurricanes strike the USA.

What was the 1940s like?

Hansen tells us the 1940s were much cooler than present. Another strike against the argument. Either Hansen is lying and the globe is cooling, or hurricanes are not affected by temperature increases and falls globally.

Maybe David should do some research before going off on one of his alarmist tangents. NOAA stated in 2004 that the hurricane frequency was very well correlated with a warm Atlantic Decadal Oscillation (AMO).

A quote here, click the link for full article.

As a result, the North Atlantic experiences alternating decades long (20 to 30 year periods or even longer) of above normal or below normal hurricane seasons. NOAA research shows that the tropical multi-decadal signal is causing the increased Atlantic hurricane activity since 1995, and is not related to greenhouse warming.

I see, nothing to do with greenhouse gases or warming.

My conclusion is either David is an alarmist who loves telling mistruths, or totally uneducated in his field.

Which one is my question?

  1. I wouldn’t exactly call David Jones a liar, but I would endorse your post Anthony, pointing out that: (1) When anyone talks to the news media they should very carefully consider their words – ie, be very cautious because a reporter will manipulate words from a source very easily, and (2) David Jones does seem to have a rather damning track record when it comes to unscientific conjecture.

  2. Good observation Lindsay. What i find alarming is how the story changes on a yearly basis. When we have an El nino, its world ending, and using GISS temperatures which we know are adjusted, When we have a heatwave, its world ending. When we havent warmed for 16 years, theres an excuse.
